Canadian Dental Care Plan

Affordable Dental Care

Sullivan Heights Dental proudly participates in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), helping Surrey residents without dental insurance access affordable care. Our friendly team provides essential dental treatments for you and your family, keeping your smile healthy and your costs manageable.

The CDCP is a federal government program launched in 2024 to make dental care more accessible for individuals and families who do not have private or employer dental benefits.

The Plan helps cover part of the cost for basic and preventive care through participating dental providers.

Who administers the plan?

The CDCP is managed by Health Canada, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), and Sun Life, which handles claim processing. Dentists do not decide who qualifies or what is covered. Learn more from Health Canada and Sun Life.

Who Is Eligible for the CDCP?

To qualify, individuals must:

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Have filed an income tax return for the previous year
  • Not have dental insurance through work, a pension, or a private plan
  • Have a family net income under $90,000 per year

Apply for CDCP coverage.

What Dental Services Are Covered?

The CDCP covers basic dental care that helps protect and restore oral health, including:

Visit the Government of Canada CDCP Coverage page for the full list.

Amount Covered

Coverage under the CDCP depends on your family’s income. The program pays a percentage of service costs based on its federal fee guide, which may differ from BC’s provincial dental fee guide.

You may need to pay a portion of the cost if:

  • Your adjusted family net income is between $70,000–$89,999
  • The procedure cost exceeds what CDCP reimburses
  • You choose treatments not covered by the CDCP

Co-Payment Structure Based on Income

The Canadian Dental Care Plan offers different levels of coverage based on the household’s adjusted net income. Here’s a breakdown of the co-payment structure:

  • If your income is $70,000 or less, you don’t need to pay extra
  • For incomes between $70,001 and $79,999, you’ll need to pay 40% extra
  • For incomes between $80,000 and $89,999, you’ll need to pay 60% extra
