BOTOX® Treatments

BOTOX® Cosmetic - Surrey

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment temporarily improves the look of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. It can also be used to minimize a ‘gummy’ smile. It is a simple, minimally invasive treatment completed in 10 minutes, delivering dramatic results with no downtime.

In our Surrey clinic, BOTOX® treatment is only administered by certified injectors, Dr. Himmat Bajwa and Dr. Nafisa Pirbhai. As dentists, they specialize in the oral and maxillofacial areas of the face more than any other medical practitioner, with an advanced understanding of the underlying muscles which cause facial movements. They can be relied on to effectively administer this prescription medicine for both cosmetic and therapeutic benefits.

If you’re planning cosmetic dentistry treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic to improve the appearance of your smile and/or smooth facial creases will accentuate your results.

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle-causing (or “dynamic”) muscles, creating a smoother, improved appearance. First approved by Health Canada in 2001, and by the FDA in 2002 as an aesthetic treatment for specific areas of the face after several years of being used off-label, BOTOX® injections were known first for being successful in treating a large range of medical conditions.

Is BOTOX Cosmetic Safe?

Yes, it’s safe and is the most widely researched and studied treatment of its kind, approved for use in 98 countries, and backed by over 16 years of published studies. The safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been described in scientific and medical journals across more than 528 peer-reviewed articles.

What to Expect with BOTOX® Treatment

At your initial consultation, Dr. Bajwa or Dr. Pirbhai spends time discussing your treatment goals. You’ll review photographs of your face together to determine the appropriate treatment areas; and they’ll complete a facial review using an erasable marker to map out the placement of the injections.

During your treatment appointment, the purified protein is administered through a few tiny injections into the identified wrinkle-causing muscles to temporarily reduce muscle activity. The number of injections will depend on which facial areas you’re improving and your desired results.

A very tiny needle is used, and the injections are not painful. It feels like a small pinch. No anesthetic is required, and treatment is completed in 10 minutes.

The effect of BOTOX® injections is seen 2-14 days after treatment. BOTOX® Cosmetic is not permanent, results may last for up to four months.

BOTOX® Therapeutic – Surrey

Before the discovery of smoothing wrinkles, BOTOX® treatment became well-known for its medical benefits. Clinically, our doctors administer the purified protein to help temporarily treat tension headaches caused by teeth clenching or grinding.

If you’re additionally experiencing jaw pain and tightness, these symptoms could be related to TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) disorders. If Dr. Bajwa or Dr. Pirbhai determines that TMJ may be an issue, they will refer you to an Oral Surgeon or Oral Medicine specialist for further evaluation.

The number of injections needed for treatment will be determined after consultation with Dr. Bajwa or Dr. Pirbhai. The length of the procedure will range from 10-30 minutes.

Potential BOTOX Treatment Patients

Please note that according to the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia regulatory guidelines, dentists can only prescribe or administer Schedule 1 drugs (i.e. Botox) under the following circumstances:

  • “the patient is a ‘patient of record’ at the dental practice;
  • the drug is part of a comprehensive dental treatment plan;
  • the patient has received a comprehensive dental examination;
  • the patient completed a full medical history and has been assessed;
  • informed consent has been obtained; and
  • treatment takes place in an appropriate clinical setting.”

This means our dentists may only administer BOTOX® injections to an existing patient of Sullivan Heights Dental who has already received a full dental exam. If you’re interested in BOTOX® treatment but aren’t a patient yet, get started by contacting us to book your initial patient consultation.

Our clinic is happy to be offering BOTOX® treatment to Surrey, South Surrey, Langley & Delta patients. Please contact us to book a consultation with Dr. Bajwa or Dr. Pirbhai today.

BOTOX® Treatment Concerns

Do I have to rest after treatment with BOTOX®?

No downtime is needed after treatment, you can return to your regular routine. Our main recommendation after treatment is to avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area for two hours afterwards. This is to keep the purified protein in the muscles being treated, and not moving it into an adjacent muscle.

Will treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic make my face look ‘frozen’ or unnatural?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. In the hands of a medical practitioner trained in facial anatomy, the treatment should provide subtle results—your face should look similar to what it looked like before the wrinkles developed: smoother and younger.

How much does BOTOX® treatment cost?

Unfortunately, we’re unable to quote a price per treatment until one of our doctors reviews your case and needs. Types and depths of wrinkles vary, as do the levels for therapeutic application. Please book an appointment to learn more.
