Q&A with Dr. Guru
We asked our new doctor a few questions to help us get to know him better.
What is a favourite memory from childhood?
Definitely spending summers with my cousins, playing cricket, riding my bicycle and eating way too many of my grandma’s sweets. Those were the best days—simple and full of fun.
Why did you choose Vancouver?
I fell in love with the city’s vibe—mountains, ocean, amazing food, and friendly people. It just felt like home the moment I arrived.
Why did you decide upon dentistry as a career?
I’ve always liked working hands on and helping people, so dentistry felt like the perfect fit. Plus, I’ve always been fascinated by how much confidence a healthy smile can bring to someone.
What do you enjoy the most about dentistry?
The connections I get to build with patients. It’s awesome when someone who was nervous about coming in starts to feel relaxed and trusts you. That’s the most rewarding part for me.
Why did you choose U of A for dentistry school?
I heard amazing things from past graduates about the program and I particularly liked how I would be able to work in rural locations in Alberta to gain more hands-on dental experience.
What do you like about Sullivan Heights Dental?
The team here is amazing—super supportive, kind, and patient-focused. There’s a real sense of community, and it feels great to be part of that.
How do you make patients feel comfortable while at the dentist?
I try to keep things relaxed and friendly. I explain what’s going on, take my time, and always listen. Sometimes a little bit of humor helps too!
What is your favourite season in Vancouver and why?
Spring, hands down. The cherry blossoms are beautiful, the weather’s just right, and everything feels fresh and full of energy.
What is your favourite food to eat, or what do you like to make for others?
I love Indian street food—chaat is a favourite of mine. And when I’m cooking for friends or family, I usually go for chicken biryani. It smells amazing and always brings people together.
