Meet Our 2024 Scholarship Recipient: KD De Venecia

October 18, 2024

The Sullivan Heights Dental scholarship is awarded to a local Surrey graduating student who has strong grades in sciences and will be pursuing a post-secondary education. Each recipient receives $500 and is chosen by their school.

Introducing KD, one of this year’s recipients of Sullivan Heights Dental Scholarship! We have two scholarships, one for each of our local high schools. KD graduated in June from Sullivan Heights Secondary. We asked him a few questions about the high school experience and what his plans are for post-secondary education.

How would you describe your overall high school experience?

My overall high school experience was a mix of learning and growth while facing challenges along the way. I met amazing people and peers who helped me along the way with unforgettable experiences throughout my journey.

What was your favorite subject in school?

My favourite subject was definitely my dance class. Not only was I able to express my passion with others but it gave me a fun escape to be free from stress if I ever needed a break.

Did you have any influential teachers while in school and if so, how did they influence you? What subject did they teach?

Ms. Law who taught dance. She influenced me by teaching me that in life if the music changes so does the dance, meaning if things are meant to be changed in life so should you.

What activities did you pursue while at school?

Activities I pursued while being in high school was being in competitive dance teams and participating in any forms of dance across the Lower Mainland.

What will you miss the most about high school?

What I will miss the most will be the friends I get to hang out with every class and lunch. They’re the reason why my experience from school was more enjoyable and unforgettable.

What are your plans for the fall and will you be attending university?

My plans for the fall is to settle in before going to classes beginning of January.

Do you have a career goal in mind?

I want to become a neurologist in the future because I’ve always enjoyed learning about the brain and its processes, which is one of the reasons I like Psychology.

How did you spend your summer?

My career goal I have in mind is becoming a Nurse or a Dermatologist in the near future.
