Surrey student scholarship recipient 2025

Meet Our 2025 Scholarship Recipient: Kirsten Ringor

August 21, 2025

The Sullivan Heights Dental scholarship is awarded to a local Surrey graduating student who has strong grades in sciences and will be pursuing a post-secondary education. Each recipient receives $500 and is chosen by their school.

Introducing Kirsten Ringor, one of this year’s recipients of Sullivan Heights Dental Scholarship! We have two scholarships, one for each of our local high schools. Kirsten graduated from Sullivan Heights Secondary in June. We asked her a few questions about the high school experience and what her plans are for post-secondary education. This interview has been edited for brevity.

What will you miss the most at school?

Being able to see the friends that I made there every day.

What was your overall high school experience like?

Really fun, especially as a grade eight Covid student I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out really fun. A lot of people didn’t know what to expect as being the ‘Covid batch’ but I made a lot of friends throughout the years. . . that was probably the best part of high school, meeting new people and making new friends.

Who was your most influential teacher?

There’s a good list of teachers. The most influential would be my Precalc 11 to Calculus teacher, Mr. Lucas. He was a really scary teacher, but that helped me. He was really tough.

What was your favourite subject in high school?

Learning would be math, like precalc—I just love doing the formulas and everything, I’m very good at numbers. There was this one class I took in grade 10, an Athletic Leadership linear class so every other day we’d do PE then we’d learn how to do scorekeeping for volleyball and basketball. From that we did a lot of volunteering before & after school for those games. . . it was really fun, we did a lot of field trips. But my favourite subject to learn was math, or even biology.

What activities did you pursue at school?

I did a lot of leadership and volunteering. In Athletic Leadership, we ran the volleyball and basketball games. I also took part in volleyball from my junior to senior year—that was really fun, made a lot of friends from that. I did Student Council and I was President of Grad Council.

What are your plans for continuing education (where and when)?

I’m going to SFU this fall. And a lot of friends are going too, but going into different programs.

Do you have a career goal in mind?

I’m going into biological sciences, and I’m hoping to further my education to go into pharmacy.

What are you doing this summer?

I’m working in South Surrey at Eggcetra, only a couple shifts per week. And I just recently got a second job . . I’m rolling ice cream in White Rock. I just started there. Then I’m hoping to go hiking with my friends, I spend a lot of time outdoors with my friends. . .I want to go to Kelowna and Whistler with my family.
