Meet Our Sullivan Heights Secondary Scholarship Winner

September 11, 2019

Meet Prab Khattra, this year’s recipient of the Sullivan Heights Dental Scholarship! The scholarship is awarded to a Sullivan Heights Secondary graduating student who has strong grades in sciences and will be pursuing a post-secondary education.

Dr. Himmat Bajwa attended the graduation ceremonies on June 5th to present Prab with the $500 award. He says, “Prab was really nice to speak with. We discovered that we had the same favourite subject – chemistry – in high school, and we both had a very tough teacher who made an impact on our future. We laughed looking back on how we didn’t appreciate this toughness at the time!”

Prab’s favourite subjects in high school were pre-calculus, physics, and chemistry. Her most influential teacher was Mr. Edwards, who taught Chemistry and had a strong impact on her career goals. She noted he was tough, and some students thought he could be strict, but his guidance helped direct her career goals. She also credits him for her strong work ethic.

While at Sullivan Heights Secondary she played soccer; participated in Grad Council helping fundraise for school activities; and sat on the global issues committee.

This fall Prab is attending UBC. She would like to study in pharmacology or medicine, with the goal of becoming a pediatrician as she likes working with kids. She says that she’ll miss her friends and the camaraderie of high school, but is looking forward to moving closer to her career goals.

It was a pleasure getting to know you, Prab—best wishes for your future!
