Dental Implants

Fill in Gaps Between Teeth & Repair Structure

If you’re missing a tooth (or teeth), a dental implant is the most effective way to replace it. Since dental implants are fixed, they provide great stability and strength for the replacement artificial teeth, which look and act like natural teeth.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

This advanced treatment involves inserting a special surgical-grade titanium post into the jawbone. The bone bonds to the post, forming a secure foundation for your new teeth.

Replacing missing teeth with dental implants not only looks attractive, it also functionally may improve the way you chew, speak or smile. More importantly, when a missing tooth is not replaced, the teeth around it will shift – ultimately causing more dental issues in the future.

Dental Implants: What to Expect

Usually three steps are required for this procedure over a period of six to nine months:

  1. The titanium implant is surgically placed in the jawbone
  2. The implant is uncovered for the addition of a post to hold the new tooth
  3. The customized dental crown is affixed to the post

The longer time period is needed for the dental implant to integrate to the jawbone and for the gum tissue to heal around the subsequent post addition. In some cases, it may take several adjustments to ensure the perfect fit of the new teeth.

As with any dental surgery, anesthesia will be used and you may experience some discomfort during the healing process. The end result will be worth it, as your restored smile will last for many, many years!

Common Questions

Can dental implants be used for multiple teeth?

Answer

Yes, implants can be used to replace several or even all your teeth. For a whole set of teeth, however, it may be preferable (in terms of cost, time and comfort) to produce implant-supported dentures. The implant anchor will provide more stability than traditional dentures.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Answer

Candidates must have a significant amount of bone in the jaw to support the implant (this will be reviewed through X-rays) and must practice excellent oral hygiene. Some pre-existing medical conditions may rule out the procedure. All of these factors will be discussed with Dr. Bajwa during your consultation.

Is special care needed for a dental implant?

Answer

Care for your implant the same way you care for your other teeth. Excellent oral hygiene is crucial to the maintenance of both natural and artificial teeth.
