Our BOTOX® Cosmetic Training
August 16, 2023Recently Dr. Pirbhai became certified to administer BOTOX® injections so our patient experience team came together to have a BOTOX training session.
We now have two doctors – Dr. Himmat Bajwa and Dr. Pirbhai – who can offer this service to our patients. If you’ve ever wondered about what the process looks like or if our staff knows what it feels like, here’s the evidence!
Dr. Himmat Bajwa has been providing BOTOX treatment for several years. In the photo above he’s administering a cosmetic injection to Dr. Pirbhai’s forehead. You may also see red pen marks around her jawline to demonstrate where therapeutic injections may be given to a patient for jaw muscle tension related to clenching or grinding. The BOTOX provides short-term relief for these issues.
And now it’s Dr. Bajwa’s turn to receive the cosmetic treatment. First Dr. Pirbhai consults with Dr. Dr. Bajwa to see which forehead lines are bothering him and they discuss the best approach for softening these wrinkles.
Next, she marks where the injections will be placed on his face to diffuse the wrinkle. The pen – not permanent, of course – helps the patient see the plan before the doctor applies the BOTOX to the underlying muscle.
Then Dr. Pirbhai applies the BOTOX Cosmetic to Dr. Bajwa’s forehead. We won’t ask how many injections he decided to receive (that’s his secret to keep), but we did ask him what the injections felt like: “Even though it was my first time, I have to say I didn’t feel the injections at all! It may have been Dr. Pirbhai’s painless injection technique that helped, but I couldn’t feel anything.”
Will he do the treatment again? “Absolutely! Considering how painless it was and how effective the treatment is in both a therapeutic and aesthetic manner, I would definitely do it again!”
Why Do Dentists Provide This Service?
In BC dentists, doctors, and nurses are the only professionals permitted to become certified BOTOX administrators. Some dentists choose to offer BOTOX injections as part of a broader approach to facial aesthetics and smile design. By combining cosmetic dentistry with facial aesthetics, dentists aim to provide comprehensive and cohesive results for their patients.
If Cosmetic BOTOX is chosen as a treatment on its own, similar to other facial rejuvenation treatments, going to your dentist eliminates the inconvenience of having to go through two different practitioners.
Dentists offer expertise in facial anatomy. Working in the oral and maxillofacial areas on a regular basis, dentists have in-depth knowledge of the muscles and structures of the face. This expertise can be beneficial when administering BOTOX injections, as it involves precise targeting of facial muscles to achieve the desired cosmetic results.
For patients who already have a trusted relationship with their dentist, receiving BOTOX injections in their dental office environment may also offer a sense of familiarity and comfort.
