surrey dentist Dr. Pirbhai

Meet Dr. Pirbhai

February 8, 2021

Dr. Himmat Bajwa and our Surrey dental team are excited to announce that we have a new Associate Dentist joining the team: Dr. Nafisa Pirbhai.

Dr. Bajwa has spent considerable time searching and interviewing practitioners to add to our dental family. While we’re growing quickly with the addition of many new patients, we need to ensure that we’re still offering the same level of exceptional patient care.

“We’re extremely pleased to have found the right fit for our practice with Dr. Pirbhai. Adding another dentist will help keep up with the increasing demand for more evening hours. I chose Dr. Pirbhai because she shares the same patient-centered philosophy and firmly believes in providing honest and open communication with her patients.”

Dr. Pirbhai will be working alongside Dr. Bajwa on Thursdays, and will accommodate patients who feel more comfortable with a female provider.

Her evidence-based approach to dental care also fits in with our practice philosophy. Dr. Pirbhai believes in educating her patients on their dental health and giving options to treat, or not treat, their conditions.

She is continually learning about dentistry so that she can share that new knowledge with her patients as well. She believes in conservative, thorough, and preventative dentistry in conjunction with patient education so that her patients have a better understanding of and control over their oral health care.

Q&A with Dr. Pirbhai

We asked Dr. Pirbhai a few questions to help us get to know her better.

What is your favourite place in Surrey?

My favourite place in Surrey would be Kindred Community Farm Sanctuary! I volunteer at this beautiful sanctuary that rescues farm animals to nourish them back to health and give them a better life.

What is a favourite memory from childhood?

I spent my childhood back and forth between Calgary and Vancouver. My favourite Albertan memories are tobogganing with my siblings in the winter (I seemed to brave the -20 degree weather much better when I was a kid!).

Why did you decide upon dentistry as a career?

I loved the idea of being able to work with my hands as I always had a knack for crafty projects, fixing things, and untangling my mother’s most knotted thin necklaces! This, combined with the fact that it involved forming lasting relationships with patients (as you see them at least twice a year) and working with a team, solidified my choice for the career.

What do you enjoy the most about dentistry?

I love getting to know patients and tailoring my care to each of their individual needs. It’s rewarding to learn about each patient’s life, meet and care for their families, and have them trust me with their oral health care.

Why did you choose U of A for dentistry school?

I heard amazing things from past graduates about the program and I particularly liked how I would be able to work in rural locations in Alberta to gain more hands-on dental experience.

What do you like about Sullivan Heights Dental?

I love the patient-centered care model, which ensures that each patient is cared for to the best of our abilities with full transparency. Dr. Bajwa and his team are truly caring and friendly, and I feel like I am joining an amazing dental family!

How do you make patients feel comfortable while at the dentist?

I like to talk to my patients through the procedures so that they know exactly what to expect, especially if it is their first time experiencing something. This begins with discussing why the procedure is beneficial as well as showing the patient the best way to care for their teeth afterward and obtain the healthiest mouth possible. I am always open to questions and want my patients to be as well-informed as possible.

What do your friends and/or family members say that you’re really good at?

Baking!

What is your dog’s name and what type of dog is she/he?

I have an Australian Shepherd. Her name is Juno and she is amazingly friendly!
