Meet Our 2024 Scholarship Recipient: Parampreet Kaur
October 18, 2024The Sullivan Heights Dental scholarship is awarded to a local Surrey graduating student who has strong grades in sciences and will be pursuing a post-secondary education. Each recipient receives $500 and is chosen by their school.
Introducing Parampreet, one of this year’s recipients of Sullivan Heights Dental Scholarship! We have two scholarships, one for each of our local high schools. Parampreet graduated in June from Panorama Secondary. We asked her a few questions about her high school experience and what her plans are for post-secondary education.
How would you describe your overall high school experience?
My time in high school was amazing. I discovered a lot about my interests and made a lot of new friends. I also had several opportunities in high school to experiment with different classes and explore my interests.
What was your favorite subject in school?
My favourite subjects were biology and psychology. I love learning about the human body, specifically the brain and the nervous system.
Did you have any influential teachers while in school and if so, how did they influence you? What subject did they teach?
Yes, Ms. Deo was an excellent teacher who taught me Psychology and English. Her classes were incredibly enjoyable and she was always energetic which encouraged me to develop an interest in psychology.
What activities did you pursue while at school?
I was a member of the homework club where I helped other students with their homework. I also volunteered outside of school at a pharmacy and I was a part of the Teen Library Council in the Surrey libraries in which our team was responsible for organizing and hosting library-based events to encourage teens to come to the library.
What are your plans for the fall and will you be attending university?
I will be attending UBC to study Sciences with a specialization in Biology
Do you have a career goal in mind?
I want to become a neurologist in the future because I’ve always enjoyed learning about the brain and its processes, which is one of the reasons I like Psychology.
How did you spend your summer?
This summer, I spent most of my time relaxing at home. However, last month, I took a trip to Toronto to visit my cousins, which was definitely a wonderful experience.
